Mom’s getaway

Tues April 24: I was at the gym at had celebrity sighting # 6 3/4…..

Todd Oldham- he’s a designer and did a line for Lazy Boy and had a show on Bravo… ok so maybe gets 3/4 of a point- but still someone famous

Wed April 25- The Tribeca Film Festival starts today- I’m in super celebrity stalking mode. I just found out today at Charlie’s school, where I take pilates that Christy Turlington (supermodel married to Edward Burns), Eddie Falcoe & Gwenyth Paltrow all take their kids to classes at Charlie’s school- that is cool- i told them to tell me when Gwenyth is in town- i want to see her.

Thursday April 26- Bill’s mom came in town- Charlie started wheezing like crazy today. We had to take him to the dr. 2 times- very scary. They said he has asthma- could be allergy related??- we have to give him breathing treatments this weekend and buy a nebulizer to keep at home.

Friday April 27- Charlie woke up back to normal today- thank goodness. I left for my girl’s trip to Cincinnati- Thanks Charlie for being better, so I could go on my trip :)

Sat & Sun- Wonderful weekend with my girlfriends from Cincinnati- how I have missed them. It was a weekend of eating, drinking, giggling, crying, dancing, peeing (top secret)… so much fun. I was able to meet baby Lucy (she’s beautiful-looks just like her pretty mom & such a sweet little thing) and baby Frank (a lover boy-such a joy to be around) these babies were the best behaved kids i have ever seen- definitely better behaved than the adults. Thanks for a great weekend girls- my ribs are sore from laughing so hard. I can’t wait for the next trip (Feb 2008-FL).

Charlie had a great weekend with g-ma Karyn, Aunt Aamie, dad, & Aunt Terri- Thanks for taking such good care of him while I was gone.

Congrats to Gina & Brian, Julie & Brad, and Greenwell’s who all just bought houses- there will be lots of parties this summer.

we have SAD

So the weather continues to be in the 40’s, rainy, windy, YUCK. Everyone in the city seems to be crabby & sick. I feel like we have that seasonal affect disorder. We need the sun, flowers, warm weather, nice people, and no more boogers.

On a happier note, Happy 1st birthday to Sam Scuglik (April 17)

Wednesday April 18: Another yucky, rainy day- Went to see Norah Jones. Let me just tell you that this was not my request. Bill is a closet Norah fan. We decided when we got there that we are too young to go see her again- everyone was in their 50’s +, but it still was a good concert and a fun night out.

Thursday April 19: Weather is getting a bit better, but Charlie was not- VERY naughty today- We had to leave “school” in the middle of music class b/c he was opening all of the closets, going behind the puppet show, getting in the band’s props, and the final straw was he hit me- so I scooped him up and put him on the couch and tried to put his shoes on (he did not care that we were leaving and was laying on the couch laughing-this did not help the situation) so I’m yelling at him and pinning him down and trying to put his shoes on and the mom’s are watching thru the door- not one of my best moments. We get home and I put him in “time out” in his crib- after 5 min I went back in and asked him if he was ready to tell mama that he was sorry for not listening at school, and he said “no” and put his head in the blanket, refusing to appologize. So we continued with this battle of the wills for 15 min and  he finally said “sorry” but he really meant, “eat shit mom”.  It was one of those days when you would pay to go to work… Then I get a call from “school” that we took the wrong shoes- another kid has the same shoes just a bit smaller- great, this is the same nanny that has yelled at me before because i tried to put his shoes on Charlie- so we went back to school and got our shoes- can’t wait to see that nanny next week. We went to dinner by Bill’s office. He works right by this really cute spot- stone street- it’s an old brick road with really neat pubs/restaurants that set up tables in the street. This was fun-

Friday April 20: YIPEE! it’s finally sunny and nice outside. I felt like a vampire when I went outside today it was so  bright out. ok, I’m not sure this is normal, b/c I am new to the gym scene, but when I was in the locker room today, there was a woman blow drying her hair with only a towel on (around her waist)- boobs flopping for all to see- I don’t know about this- Bill says men are always naked in the locker room, but is this normal for women?   We went to the park and I felt so bad for Charlie- there were literally 100 + kids and moms/nannies at the park- it was so crowded and hard to find an inch to play… Charlie kept trying to play with the other kids in the sand and they would push him or say “no”- my heart broke for him- but he finally found a younger kid who didn’t mind sharing… He starting wheezing at the park today- i took him right to the dr. and was glad she was able to see him doing it (b/c i really think she didn’t believe me) so she thinks it’s an allergy triggering the wheezing and gave him so medicine- hopefully this helps. Friday night Bill and I went to a good Italian restaurant by our house and then walked to the movie theatre to see “Blades of Glory”- funny and dumb. On our way there we saw a HUGE rat crossing the street- yikes- it was the size of a cat. I do have to say that it was pretty cool to walk to dinner and a movie (I’m back in like with NYC now).

Saturday: Gorgeous day- 75 degrees- so beautiful. I think my SAD disorder is gone- I just needed some sunshine. We had a great day- went to Union Square Market in the morning- it’s a huge farmer’s market with breads, vegetables, arts/crafts, cheese, flowers… it was great- we walked back a nice long walk thru NYU, SOHO… really nice. In the afternoon we went to the Flower District in Chelsea to get plants for our deck. This was blocks of plant stores- very fun for me (not Bill & Charlie)- they will deliver the plants/trees tomorrow. I can’t wait to get the deck looking nice- We grilled out tonight and it was so nice to have that outdoor space- we are going to love having it this summer.  I had a sticker shot moment today- I ran to get wipes for Charlie at the grocery store and they were $9.50- crazy, I know!

First signs of spring in NYC! Finally!!

Sunday: The plants we bought yesterday arrived this afternoon- it’s so funny how everything is delivered here, but nice-  We spent the afternoon planting and arranging the patio. It looks awesome. This is going to be a great place to hang out this spring/summer.

Charlie had fun digging in the dirt. Tonight Bill & I went to dinner and then to a couple of bars we’ve been wanting to check out in the area. So Bill takes me to his choice, The Patriot- we walk in and the temp increased by 40 degrees. It was this shady, dark, smelly, hole in the wall place with about 15 people inside all wasted (sun night). I look at the bartender and it appears that she is naked- no she’s not naked, she’s wearing jeans with her thong hanging out and pasties on her boobies- this was a first for me- so we’ve got a dandy of a place to take our out of town guests. Only in NYC!!!!

side note: For those of you who watch Sopranos, the scene tonight were that guy got shot in the eye took place right around the corner from us- pretty cool to watch tv and it’s taking place in your neighborhood- crazy!

on the go again

Another busy week-

Monday April 9- Charlie started art class at “school”. He really liked it- went from table to table coloring, painting, glueing- he was a big mess (and so was I) but it was lots of fun and gives us something to do. We are getting soooo sick of the weather here. Each time we go away it’s gets much harder to return to the dreary, cold, rainy, dirty, no plants or flowers or nice people in Manhattan (having an anti-Manhattan week). We are running out of indoor activities and have major cabin fever, plus we’re all sick- YUCK.

Thursday April 12: went to “mom’s night” at Charlie’s “school”. I will admit, i was nervous to go and almost didn’t, but that morning we were at one of Charlie’s classes and one of the teachers asked me if I was coming and I said I didn’t know and she said - oh you should come, we only want the cool moms to come- WAIT A MINUTE… am i a cool mom? That was all I had to hear… so i tried to get Amanda to come with me, but she couldn’t, so I went by myself. I wasn’t sure what to wear or how late to show up. So I got there and the 2 ladies I know were there (the teacher who said I was cool- who by the way is an x-model and actress/singer-she’s 6 ft. tall, size 2 and gorgeous- can’t I find a normal person to be friends with?) and the other lady is the owner. They had wine and appetizers and a trunk show of kids clothes. It actually ended up being really fun and i met some nice moms- but defintely not normal moms- I was the fattest, dorkiest person there- they were all dressed to kill (skinny jeans, tank tops, lots of jewelry, high heels), but they were nice and I had fun.

Friday-Sunday went to Valpo for my friend Kelly from high schools wedding. Friday we were in the airport waiting for our flight and Charlie started wheezing- we freaked out and luckily had a breather thing for emergencies and gave it to him but he was coughing so hard he threw up all over himself and Bill 5 min before boarding. So once we knew he was ok, we got on the tiny plane and sat there for 2 hours smelling like puke- nice flight. Went to Kelly’s rehearsal dinner that night which was very nice and so good to see my friends Megan, Amy & Laura from high school. Saturday was the wedding- Kelly was gorgeous- she looked like a goddess. Everything was perfect. They had the same band that we did at our wedding, so we danced and danced all night long- such a fun night.

Sunday- our flight was delayed 2 hours because of the bad weather. We waited in the airport another 2 hours on the runway for 1 hour and finally made it home at 1:30am- YIKES. I think we’ve had enough traveling for a while.

busy, busy

Hello everyone- The last few weeks have flown by… Here’s what we’ve been up to-

Tuesday March 27- Went to the Central Park zoo with Amanda and Grace. It took us 40 min to get there in a cab… YIKES. The zoo is beautiful, old buildings in Central Park. It’s small but nice for an hour or too. We decided to be adventurous and take the subway home. I had the big stroller “BOB” because we forgot our other stroller in

FL- anyway this made things a bit tricky to try and pick it up with Charlie in it and go down and up lots of stairs. Luckily I asked random men and they helped me. We got on an express train that only stops at the bigger stops, so it’s much faster. Amanda and Grace got off at their stop and we said our good-byes. Next thing I knew we were above ground and going over a huge bridge- Holy Crap we are leaving

Manhattan. The next stop was in Brooklyn- for some reason I had the misconception that

Brooklyn was really far away- it really isn’t, so we got back on the correct train and made it home- an hour later
J

Wednesday March 28- Bill invited me to his office “bowling night”… I know- Nerdy. But I’m always up for a night out- so luckily Amanda and Jay’s girlfriend, Erin went too. It was at this fancy bowling alley (I know you are thinking that’s not possible, but it actually is). It was like a trendy bar with bowling alleys- it’s 2 floors, dark, big bar, pretty cool. We met some of the workers and then found out that we (the girls) really weren’t invited and that it was a “team building” activity and teams were already made up, so we couldn’t bowl. Oh, well- we went to the bar instead. Still was a fun night out even if we weren’t supposed to be there.

The rest of the week/weekend Charlie was stick with some scary virus- he was wheezing on Thursday and had to go to the doctor and get a breathing treatment. So it was 4 days of whining, crying, shuffling around (very funny if you’ve seen it), not eating, not sleeping thru the night….

Monday April 2- Charlie is still a sick little puppy. We went to the doctor again and his breathing is better, but now has a fever… another fun day with the big crab.

Tuesday April 3- Still not feeling well- everything is major drama; getting dressed, combing his hair, putting on his coat, putting him in the highchair- all make him cry. We had ordered circus tickets a few weeks ago, so the mean-old parents attempted a “fun family night out”. We met Pat, Amanda & Grace for dinner at a great place near our house, Bubby’s. Charlie threw his toys at me and only wanted to eat a chocolate chip cookie (so that was his dinner). But the dinner wasn’t a total bust, Pat spotted celebrity sighting #5 1/2 ……

John Stewart with his son eating a few tables away.

Then we went to the circus which was atMadison

Square

Garden. The place was crazy with thousands of kids and their parents- kids begging for $22 (yes $22) glow/spinning things, elephant drinks, light up tiaras… Charlie and Grace were into it for about 1 hour (including the 30 min before it started) and then Grace thought it was more fun to pull the kid’s hair in front of us and Charlie was trying to steal the lady’s phone in front of us, so we left… Note to self- not a good idea to take a kid under 3 to the circus… oh well- maybe next year.

Wed April 4- King crab of the world, Charlie, whined/laid on the floor all morning. He hasn’t eaten anything besides a chocolate chip cookie, some pretzels & 1 waffle in 3 days. I took him to the doctor in the pouring, freezing rain- it turns out now he has an ear infection. The kid never took any medicine and never went to the doctor before we moved here- and he’s been sick since we got here… what’s the deal? So hopefully the medicine will make him better soon.

Thursday April 5- Sunday April 8: Went to Sea World in Orlando for a family weekend getaway and for Easter. Charlie felt a bit better each day- he wasn’t crazy about Sea World- it was a beautiful day, but most of the attractions were either too crowded for him to be able to see anything or they were shows, which required waiting, which doesn’t go over well for Charlie- so we were there a few hours and then back for his nap. We stayed at an awesome hotel with a lazy river and great pools. Charlie’s favorite thing to do was play in the sandbox. I think that’s because the sandbox here in NYC is always so crowded that the kids steal his toys and knock him down so he was happy to have the playground and sandbox all to himself. We got to spend some time with Papa Tom, Aunt Aamie & Grandma Karyn. Went to Epcot one night even though we said no Disney Parks (but someone begged and begged and couldn’t resist- hint wasn’t me or Charlie) so we went one evening with Aunt Aamie, Charlie, me & the disney lover. It was really fun- they have a new Nemo ride Charlie loved and we loved drinking around the world.
